A colony is any territory of the Principality which has not yet been fully integrated into the state as one or more permanent administrative divisions, such as provinces. Colonies are thus transitory entities existing between when the territory has been acquired and when full sovereignty is established. Colonial governments exist to facilitate this transition, starting out with their institutions and organizations adapted to meet the colony's unique needs and over time morphing into a form of government more in line with that administrative division which the colony is to become.
