Conservation Policy in Advance of Colonial Development

Regardless of the initial justifications given for the Principality's Antarctic and Martian colonial claims, these territories are Fortressian, having been organized into the Marie Byrd Colony and the Olympus Mons Colony, respectively, and their use is therefore at the sole discretion of the Pillow Fortress. As planning for the further development of these colonies begins, we must recognize our duty to conserve aspects of their environments for scientific study and the enjoyment of future generations. Thus, the following geographic features of the Marie Byrd Colony and Olympus Mons Colony are to be placed under independent commissions within their respective devolved governing units to provide oversight and veto over any proposals regarding their use, development, or exploitation, subject to the needs of defense of the Principality and its client states:

1. In Marie Byrd Colony, the south pole and surrounding environs, no less than seventy percent of the colony's total coastline, and some number of outlying islands to be specifically determined at a later date

2. In Olympus Mons Colony, Olympus Mons, Tharsis Montes, and Cydonia Mensae

Additional territory within Marie Byrd Colony and Olympus Mons Colony may be likewise protected under the same conservation regimes as those mentioned above with the assent of the Department of Territory, the Council of Territory, their respective colonial governments, or the Princess.
