The L4 Archipelago (L14) is a colonial possession of the Principality consisting of a volume of empty space located at L4 Earth-Sol Lagrange point. It is to be the proving ground for the viability of long term Fortressian habitat in space via the construction of artificial colonies, as it is believed that this is the more effective means of developing and maintaining a largely off-Earth civilization, rather than the settlement of other planets. Once proven viable, the L4 Archipelago, along with the other Lagrangian archipelagos, are to be expanded and duplicated, first into other Lagrange points of the Sol system, and then, eventually, into a Dyson swarm. The term "archipelago" is derived from the fact that the first serious designs for independent space colonies were dubbed "islands."
