District
A district is a non-self governing administrative division within a Municipality or Township with a particular purpose or nature, typically, though not necessarily, corresponding to the kind of development its zoned for.
Types of District
Agricultural District
An agricultural district is one reserved mainly for the growing of produce or the raising of livestock, i.e. farmland.
Business District
A business district is one reserved mainly for the conducting of business or commerce, usually involving inter-city trade, goods, or services.
Capital District
A capital district is one reserved mainly for that area in which a provincial or municipal government is predominately located.
Entertainment District
An entertainment district is one reserved mainly or mostly or most notably for concentrations of public entertainment venues, including but not limited to theaters, galleries, concert halls, theme and amusement parks, and video arcades.
Historical District
An historical district is one which has been determined to be of such a high historical interest and importance that it precludes further development or modernization, and is to be left intact for study and appreciation by future generations.
Manufacturing District
A manufacturing district is one reserved for factories and other heavy industries.
Nature District
A nature district is one reserved mainly or mostly for the presence of natural or underdeveloped areas such as large parks, hiking trails, lakes, streams, etc.
Non-District
Non-districted areas are any part of a municipality or township which has not yet been officially divided up into districts.
Red-Light District
A red-light district is one reserved for businesses and institutions which are age-restricted, including but not necessarily limited to brothels, casinos, pornographic theaters, sex shops, strip clubs, and adult themed outdoor venues.
Residential Districts
A residential district is one reserved mainly for private residences such as homes and apartments.
Rural District
A rural district is one which is sparsely populated and with little in the way of development or infrastructure.
University District
A university district is reserved for an institute of higher learning, such as a university, and all the surrounding infrastructure, residences, and businesses which support that university.
Urban District
An urban district is a district reserved mainly for high density, mixed use residential, business, entertainment, etc.
