COVID-19 pandemic in the Pillow Fortress
The Principality of the Pillow Fortress took the coronavirus pandemic (2 - 5) seriously, and coordinated public health measures through the Office of the Chief of Fortressian Biodefense. Despite implementing all reasonable precautions and having a 100% vaccination rate, COVID-19 was confirmed to have reached the Principality on 31 Turridor 4 when the First Princess tested positive for SARS-Cov-2. Her experience of the disease was mild, and after a period of isolation followed by additional negative tests, she was able to resume her duties as normal. Based on contemporary population statistics, the Pillow Fortress is unique among countries as having both a 100% COVID-19 infection rate and a 100% COVID-19 recovery rate.
The pandemic is considered to have officially ended on 12 Outwork 5, with SARS-Cov-2 declared endemic. This decision was not made to force a return to pre-COVID normalcy, but rather as an acknowledgement of the reality of the global failure to eradicate the disease. Individuals are encouraged to take whatever precautions they believe are necessary to protect themselves, such as wearing masks, getting regular vaccine boosters, and social distancing, while the government will continue to monitor the progression of SARS-Cov-2 as part of its biodefense responsibilities.
