Her Majesty's Chief Representative or, simply, the Chief Representative is an individual empowered by the Princess to exercise certain of her powers at the highest level of government. Which powers and under what contexts they may be used are determined entirely by the Princess, and can be restricted or expanded by her at will, subject to no recourse by the Chief Representative. The Chief Representative serves at the Princess's pleasure, and their appointment is not subject to approval by the Directory or any other government organ. The position of Chief Representative is superficially similar to that of prime minister as found in many constitutional monarchies, but is simultaneously both more and less powerful.

Purpose

The Chief Representative exists as a means for the Princess to retain all her powers while also freely delegating them. It's assumed, rightfully, that not all Princesses will have the same enthusiasm for their role, or have equal enthusiasm for all aspects of the role, or lack in relative qualifications to adequately fulfill one or more aspects of the role. Instead of forcing herself into situations which would be suboptimal both for her as an individual and for the state, a Princess can instead empower her Chief Representative to do those things of which she is uninterested or unskilled to do.

That what powers a Princess delegates to her Chief Representative, and for how long, and who she appoints to the position are essentially arbitrary is key to her maintaining her Charter and Constitution given powers. If the process of delegation to the Chief Representative were systematized within the government, perhaps as overseen by the Directory, it would become an expectation that, rather than a sharing of powers, it's a transfer of power, even if merely symbolic, and this would in turn lead to the Princess's ability to act being constrained, with further delegation of power until such time as she is a wholly symbolic figure, not unlike the British monarch, who, while technically having near absolute power, is, in fact, subject to so many legal restraints and negative precedents that they are unable to do anything. By keeping the exact nature of the Chief Representative's power and authority and person arbitrary, it cannot function as a check on the Princess, as what all the Chief Representative entails will change between reigning Princesses, and within the reigns of individual Princesses.
