The Principality of the Pillow Fortress is a sovereign and independent micronational "state in waiting" founded on 20 January, 0/2018 by Julia Platz-Halter, its reigning Princess.
Name and Etymology
The name "Pillow Fortress" derives from the term "pillowfort", a strategy in the trading card game Magic: The Gathering that the First Princess was fond of playing at the time of the Principality's founding. There has never been a literal pillow fort associated with the Principality, the name having been chosen as a whimsical way of implying peace and prosperity.
Government
The Pillow Fortress is a constitutional monarchy with a government comprised of multiple co-equal estates: the Directory (legislative), the Throne (executive), and the Xeer (judiciary). The Princess serves as head of state, head of government, and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Political power within the Principality is monopolized by the Libertine Party, the sole legal political party to which all persons holding government appointments or positions with policy making power must be members.
Territory
Currently, the territory of the Principality consists of one non-territorial province, the Pillowans Abroad Province, one terrestrial claim, the Marie Byrd Colony, and multiple celestial claims organized under the aegis of the Fortressian Sol System Governing Regime - Terrestrial Territories Excluded. No further territorial claims are planned unless and until the Pillow Fortress is capable of extending full sovereignty over them. Additionally, the Pillow Fortress is in perpetual union with one client state which claims territory of its own, the Republic of the Serene Gate.

The supreme law of the Principality is the State Charter, which defines certain qualities of state which are to be permanent. The second highest law of the Pillow Fortress, superior to all others except the State Charter, is the Constitution. The purpose of the Constitution is to establish the fundamental structure of the government. In some circumstances, it is legal for the Constitution to be scrapped and replaced with a new one. Below the Constitution is the Pillow Fortress Code, the combined civil and criminal code of the Principality, and the Royal Decrees, which have the force of law unless and until overturned by the Directory.
History
The Pillow Fortress developed into its current form over the course of decades, starting out as a series of sci-fi world building projects which gradually lost their fantastical elements, becoming more and more focused on the governing structures of a single component country. Eventually, after what was believed to be the loss of the most recent iteration's data, it was decided the next implementation would not be fictional, but a proper micronation. The Pillow Fortress declared independence on January 20, 0/2018 and has been steadily growing ever since.
